It's funny because it's damn true.

...

What, you expected at least some half-assed attempt at a blog tonight??? Shut the fuck up.

Always nice to see a good friend of mine succeeding at something they love:

Fordham University senior Beth Purcell (Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater Area) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Ocotber 10th. She shares the honor with St. Bonaventure's Heather MacDougall. This is Purcell's second Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor of her career, and the third weekly honor overall.

Purcell, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last season, helped Fordham to two conference wins this weekend, as the Rams pushed their conference record to 2-2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Purcell had three goals and an assist this weekend, as she had a goal and an assist in the Rams' 3-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday, while having a two goals in Sunday's 3-1 win over Duquesne. She now leads Fordham in scoring with five goals and four assists for 14 points on the year.

IncluDing this season's stats, Purcell has now moved into the top five career leaders for Fordham in goals (5th with 15), assists (3rd with 12), and points (4th with 42).

The Fordham Women's Soccer team is currently 7-2-2 overall on the year, 2-2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Fordham will be in action this week with road Atlantic 10 games against Saint Joseph's on Friday, October 15th at 7:00 PM and against Temple on Sunday, October 17th at 1:00 PM.

She probably won't read this blog (she's a sickeningly busy girl), but congrats to ya' lass, and yes, I AM still keeping up with how you're doing over there!!! :D

Ok, so i'm STILL going through my Calvin and Hobbes phase. What can I say, i'm a sucker for the little brat and his tiger. :D Anyways, here's my fave's that i've seen so far:

1. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870115.gif

Talk about starting off on a sombre note, but I couldn't help read this strip and think, "Calvin, you can be such a bastard at times." This follows a spout of Calvin skitting Susie, and the reason I loved this strip, is because there's so many people out there who can identify with that bullshit saying, and feel that lost hope that Susie does.

*Cries a lot*

2. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860803.gif

Bill Watterson was and is a genius. And his humour is top of the comic world. The last window on this strip had me literally LOL'ing, and that's not something I do as a hobby.

3. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860817.gif

To see a tiger, in mid-air after being flung by a way-ward push-kart, to quietly state that his heart has stopped in the way Hobbes does in this strip... it made me nearly piss myself. There's something about that window that is funny beyond words, I can't pinpoint it.

4. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870127.gif

It's amazing how Hobbes can still seem such a life-like character, even when presented in his 'stuffed tiger' form. Calvin's final response borders on slightly chilling. Knowing what he knows and what Susie doesn't know about him and Hobbes is one of life's never-ending mysteries...

5. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870203.gif

It's ALWAYS great to see Calvin stick it to his dad. :D

6. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870208.gif

It's not often we see Hobbes end a strip more pissed off than even Calvin, but when we do it usualyl guarantees a gold finisher by the tiger, and he doesn't fail to deliver on this occasion.

7. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870217.gif

It's not so much the fact Hobbes ends up in the dryer (what with us having grown to him as a 'real' person), but the fact he, and Calvin for that matter, take the event as a given, and have a nice little bitch at the end about how he could have looked better.

8. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870222.gif

I was fooled by this strip. The fact Calvin sees through his mother's ploy, after what was initially a very heart-warming opener, just paints that kid as he is.

9. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870308.gif

A very nice example in the last window of how dark the humour of C&H could be. What other comic would have a 6 yr old making a threat like that? Hobbes' Jump = 11/10

10. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870315.gif

I absolutely FUCKING love this strip. The gap between parent and child is presented in such a beautiful way, you can't help but find Calvin's happiness so fucking cute, and his dad's dis-interest in the photo's bordering on saddening. i think we all remember this innocence.

11. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870320.gif

Hobbes is simply a sexy mother-fucka.

12. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870323.gif

Again, Hobbes as a smart-arse, and Calvin as the kid we all once were.

13. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870414.gif

We all had our problem children in school. I'll never forget ours back in good ooooooooooooooolllllllllllll' 7C.

14. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870418.gif

Calvin's dad can be very mis-understanding at times, but it's times like this, when he's at his cruel impressionable best, that he charms me.

15. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch870508.gif

Funny as it seems, it IS actually satisfying to see Calvin get his come-uppance at times, moreso when it's from Hobbes.

16. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch851217.gif

Possible cliff-hangers are always nice to dwell on. Hobbes receiving the greatest last-lines is ALWAYS sweet.

17. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch851222.gif

Is a positive anti-climax even supposed to work? Cos this one fucking does.

18. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch851226.gif

Any C&H strip which ends with these two flying off the sled always pleases me.

19. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860105.gif

Always nice to see Susie come out on top. That poor girl suffers a lot with that cruel fucker.

20. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860209.gif

For some reason, Hobbes covered in bubbles wearing that silly hat tickles me silly. No less does Calvin's mum's reaction at the end.

21. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860212.gif

We all had our young school crushes. And a lot of them DID usually revolve around us 'hating' the other person, hiding our secret tendencies in the process. Love this strip.

22. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860218.gif

This strip always made me believe Calvin's destiny would be to become the ultimate Goth.

23. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860323.gif

Watterson was usually at his best when taking stabs at today's society, without fully acknowledging it. This is one of his better examples.

24. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860422.gif

It's how he tells em'!!! :D

25. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860624.gif

I'd LOVE to try this out. Thorougood's is the perfect target... (rubs hands in glee)

26. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860701.gif

Hobbes, I love you.

27. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860729.gif

What is it that Watterson does that makes me immediately fall at Susie's feet, wanting to hug the poor dear for the ongoing sadness she so obviously feels?

*Cries a lot*

28. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860809.gif

Because I love those cart / sled oncoming collisions so much. :D :D :D

29. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860816.gif

Remember the positive anti-climax before? Well this one ain't positive at all. Just very funny. Almost feel sorry for them, how silly they look. :)

30. http://www.megaworm.com/uploads/ch860826.gif

In MY opinion... the funniest C&H strip ever created.

And that's it. Oh, and if you want over 1'400 C&H strips in one very easy to unzip file, click the link:

http://dl.downloadhosting.com/download/ferenz/ch.zip

Oh, and the password to the above file (when asked for it by winzip) is 'sebu'. The file's about 41 meg's, but at nearly one and a half thousand strips, you CAN'T complain. NEVER...

Enjoy.

:D

3.10.04

What a bizarre night... but then I always think they're bizarre when realistically they're anything but. Anywho, was nice to see Skippy, Lady H, Snarlie, Big Dan, Laura & Claire (And their friends who seem to love my suit), young Kev from last week again, Smithy, Sam... I could go on. A bit of a shame I didn't get annihilated, but there's always next time. :)

Was able to bump into Leann again, which was a great end to an otherwise tiring night. I was already sitting off outside, waiting for my bro to get his fat arse out of the cess-pool, and the next thing I know, she's standing outside by the entrance with her Austrian friend Elle (I hope that's how she spells it). So I trundled on over to greet her with open arms and a happy 18th birthday. The all important one. Legal. :D I was so close to getting a taxi home with her and the ever exquisite Charlotte, only my drunk brother and the Blakely stumbled on out, shouting and screaming about nothing, before Lee decided to try and pull a windscreen wiper off some KH bouncer's car. Not the best idea. But again, Leann, always a pleasure. :) We really shouldn't keep meeting like this. :P

My blog's are distancing themselves from one another. I have no excuse. I simply am tired lately, and trying to find shit to write about is becoming a strange chore. What happened to the days where i'd pull a subject out of mid-air and launch into a petty tirade upon anything from students, bus-drivers, the price of fish, etc? Maybe i'm losing my touch. Maybe. But still, there's enough people seemingly reading this hunk of shit for me to carry on for now I suppose. Even the bombs and the scarecrows will sing... though that hasn't been scientifically proven as of yet. Watch this space. As always. Salut.

26.9.04

Been a while hasn't it?

What an alternative night at the KH last night... first of all, I was over the moon to be able to put a silly silence between me and a good friend of mine, Leann (you'd have heard about her earlier this year on my blog), to rest. I'm not going into detail over what happened, but we sorted it out last night, and it was nice to end the night being proper friends with her again. Back when we were ok, she was great, I loved the girl to pieces, and enjoyed being round her. Anyways, something happened, and as I said, we kinda drifted apart and stopped speaking. Well we're fine now, and it was just great to put that all behind us and catch up again really. So, thank you. :)

It was also interesting to meet her cousin... Kevin Maguire. Some of you may know this chap from West Derby School, but I had only really known him through a past acquaintance of mine, who nearly got with him at one point. Anyways, needlessly to say, it's amazing how much you find out about people from your past who you thought you already knew inside out! Oh, and he got pissed when Blakely called him Pete, after Pete Abe. Personally, Abe's not that bad... not THAT... bad. ;)

University's back. But it's my final year, so i'm not going to launch into some tiresome tirade about how much students piss me off, but I will say this one thing: a good friend of mine moved out of his home, to student accomodation in Liverpool. His argument? Same argument as the fucking rest of em'; to gain independence. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but how the fuck do you gain independence from living in student accom., when you're having to take a loan out to pay for it? i've told myself I will not move out until I can afford it. It's pointless to go into further debt just for the sake of being able to cook your own meals, iron your own clothes, and decide when you want to watch TV!!! PS: I can do all 3 of the abive living at home with my parents. I don't need to live on my own to gain fucking independence.

On a sidenote: for those of you who may have become converted by my Calvin and Hobbes post from earlier this week... I give you the very last ever C&H strip published. It's kinda sad, especially knowing Calvin's adventures were to be no more. :(

"It's a magical world. Hobbes ol' buddy... let's go exploring!"

(Cries buckets)

20.9.04

When I was a kid, I used to LOVE Garfield Comics. I'd buy the monthly magazine they used to sell, i'd watch the TV series (Which even back then i thought to be trying too hard in comparison to the still form), i'd beg my parents for little toys with the fat black and orange cat on, I loved the guy. Growing up, I lost my feel for him. I dunno what happened, but Jim Davis, the creator of the strip, seemed to lose the knack for humour he previously seemed to be so prevalent at conjuring up at whim. Anywho, I gave up on comics once I reached my teens. Being the pretentious prick I became, I sought for intellectual stimuli; anything that could get me thinking, and not be fed to me without me feeling like i'd been a part of it. Be it movies, TV shows (Yeah right), literature, even video games (you'd be surprised at some of the educational values our gaming culture possesses).

Now, until yesterday, i'd heard of calvin and Hobbes before, I just never knew what it was, besides a comic strip based in the US. I never knew it had ceased to exist in 1996 because the author, Bill Watterson, had become so afraid of fame, he couldn't handle the pressures of continuing this strip loved by millions. Nor did I know the strip itself followed the antics of a remarkably intelligent young 6 yr old boy known as Calvin, and his stuffed tiger Hobbes, who Calvin believed to be a real live tiger, and conversed with him on a wide range of subjects.

At a place that doesn't exist, I found a site with the top 25 Calvin and Hobbes strips of all time, and so fueling my curiousity no longer, I decided to fall for the bait and see what the fuss was surrounding this now defunct strip.

http://www.progressiveboink.com/archive/calvinhobbes.htm

If like me, you found those to be absolutely wonderous and enjoyful, here's a HUGE selection of more C&H for you.

Words can't describe the quality of the Rush concerts, so I will make a piss-poor attempt at it, by describing them as being god-like. These guys have sewn up a huge empty patch in my life, and for that, I thank them. My dad acted a dickhead in Glasgow after he drunk 8 pints too many, we were in the 14th row in Manchester and that was the best night, it was just... one of the best weeks ever. I really can't explain...

Anyways, i'm back then. I just searched for 'Auto2112' on google, and it seems another 2 blog list sites have added mine to their lists, which is nice. I just always wonder tho, if it's not me submitting the site, who the fuck is? And if no-one is, who's the fuck who sees my site and enters it into their lists? Intriguing to say the least.

Kind of an anti-climax this blog, as I remember wanting to talk about loads, but i'm not feeling top of the world at the moment, a little ill ya see, so i'm going to cut this short till I get better. Until then... adieu.

10.9.04

Ok, so I said I wasn't going to blog again until after Rush but these past few days have just been too crazy, hectic, eventful to ignore them until then.

So, Rush... BEST. CONCERT. EVER. I can't even begin to put into words just how awesome, gobsmacking, godlike these guys were. from Jerry Stiller introducing the band via a video, to Alex Lifeson's now eagerly awaited 'La Villa Strangiato' rant, to Alex and Geddy Lee taking shirts from their tumble dryers and throwing them out to the crowd, it was just a fantastic night. Easily the best concert performance i've ever been personally witness to. I've got Birmingham tomorrow night, which is September 11th, AND Neil Peart's Birthday. So it's GOT to be a big night for the group and its fans. I'm so looking forward to it. :D

So, I went out last night, just your usual KH affair, but it was Phil's birthday, so there was that added feel to the proceedings. Anyway, we started off in the Jacaranda, and who should be there but Sarah's boyfriend, the guy who she cheated on me with. Naturally, I immediately got all pissed and wanted to go over there and kick the shit out of the lanky Rodney Trotter (Copyright of Lee Houghton) wannabe. As did our Lee when he found out who it was, but then we both admitted that it'd be pointless. Sure it'd be great to see that bastard sprawled out on the ground, but we'd only get arrested, charged with assault, and get a criminal record. I don't want that shit. Best part was, he didn't even realise who I was, so he actually bumped into me twice. Needless to say, my new Rush Jersey better not have a stain on it. It's in the wash anyway. the cheeky fuck and his bandmates even went so far as to eye up my mate's sisters!!! My mate was visibly unpleased, even moreso when he realised who one of them were. So, I really didn't want to be in that place anymore, not knowing that the guy who contributed to the pain and suffering I received was there too, so my mates being the great crew they are understood, and we all went to the KH were a great night was had by all, Phil disappeared for most of it, me and Kate boogied throughout the night, and Helen took a paddy and launched a huge tirade upon me in regard to my views of students. Still, was a perfect end to the night, I mean really, what night out isn't complete without some pointless argument? :D Helen knows I have no personal qualms with her. ;)

It gets better on the Sarah situation tho, as she even forced herself to message me today for the first time in 3 months. 3 months after I told her I wanted nothing to do with her. 3 months after she hurled a very hurtful avalanche of personal insults my way. Knowing very well I wouldn't be best pleased to see her. I still allowed her to speak to me though, but I haven't got a fucking clue why I bothered. Speaking with her, I realised she hasn't learnt from any of her past mistakes, and guess what? her life's been on a constant downward spiral ever since we stopped speaking, and the icing on the cake is that she's STILL with that lout she cheated on me with. Some people just never learn. Still, i'm just glad I never let her re-appearance bother me, and i'm the still the happiest guy! :D Don't you lot worry, I DO actually listen to my friends. You know what i'm talking about. ;)

Anyways, must dash, i've got fuck all to do, and I need to go and do it. So enjoy yaselves, like I will all fucking weekend! :D Adieu...

7.9.04

I haven't updated a lot recently, and that trend will be sure to continue, because yes, I am finally there... it's RUSH WEEK.

(Cheers, jubilation, lots of sex, and Jelly Babies)

Now I know i'm like, the only guy I know who loves these fuckers (our Lee too of course, well, my family for that matter!) but I still can't help rant and rave about them on this here blog. It's Rush! And they're like, amazing! I don't apologise for sounding like some little fucking fanboy, because this is the only thing I am genuinely passionate about (and DVD's ya soft twat). So I feel justified in jumping round like a little fucking gobshite. :D

8th September - London Wembley
11th September - Birmingham NEC
12th September - Manchester MEN (14 ROWS FROM THE FRONT, RIGHT IN THE CENTRE!!!)
14th September - Glasgow SECC

So basically, on them nights, you probably won't hear from or see me. No nights out this weekend for me, but then if I had to choose a night in with Rush or at the KH, there's no question what i'd choose...

Until the 15th, enjoy yourselves. I know I will!!! :D

3.9.04

Just a quick post to confirm to Jen that no, I did not see Green Day in any shape or form. It's not that I don't like them, I just don't hate them either. Didn't want to see them... oh, and of course, with Mike Patton performing in one of the other tents at the very same time, Greenday just looks an extremely lost cause. And if you don't know who Mike Patton is, check him out. He's a personal hero of mine. Green Day might be good, but Mike Pattern is Good minus one 'o'.
