Children in Need is indeed a good cause, but the execution of it borders on insulting. The fact of the matter is, while our millions are being poured into these desperate communities hankering for any food and drink, we have celebrities who don't really give a shit about it all really, and are only concerned with plugging whatever latest venture is present in their lives at that time. Last night, we had the likes of Tom Hanks and Sarah Michelle Gellar in recorded video's sending messages of hope over, while in the background of these vignettes hung posters of their latest movies. Un-intentional i'm sure. You've got bands performing music, knowing very well they have a latest album / single to promote, there's the desperate celebrities who, like all the ones clamouring for places on reality TV shows these days, are there in the hope that anything they say or do will spark off a resurgence of public interest in them again so they can take up a slot hosting some shitty quiz-show. It's depressing. And the worst part is it's supposedly for a good cause.
The BBC are the worst. They throw this at us every year, making us feel guilty by showing us clips of how these under-priviledged people have to live, and beg us to give our money to the countries. This coming from a company which already charges us for our TV rights. You'd think they'd have learnt by now that instead of begging us, they could simply take a small percentage of what the nation pays for those rights, and send that over. Say there's 5 million licences over here, and anything as small as £4 was taken from each one for the support, that'd blow away the current record for the highest donation total ever made by the show. But no, the BBC instead have the cheek to even increase our licence fee by another £5.50, and then cheekily get Z-list celebrities to ask us for more cash. if it was another channel that didn't have it's own interests at heart, I might be more interested, but as long as the BBC continues to take control of this farce, they can fuck right off.
They brag about £17 million pounds? We live in a country of 55 - 60 million people. £17 million is fuck all in the grand scheme of things. Sure not everyone can afford it, which makes my TV licence idea even more sensible. Least then the people who DO have to sit through the tedium of Pudsey the Bear (Who really should have tried another joke of a service, the NHS, by now) can see some of their money being put to good use for once, instead of being used to create shitty Saturday night TV. Terry Wogan's great though. :D

So, we have a winner in the DVD purchase, and that was madame Skippy, who is now the proud owner of 2 fantastic and still sealed Region 1 Clerks and Dogma DVD's. Congrats chick. I'll e-mail ya soon to sort out when we can do the 'transaction'. ;)

Big surprise came today when my darling American friend Beth (who i've mentioned previously in my blog as the soccer sensation currently setting America on fire with her wispy footwork and sexual dribbling) told me she's coming to England next Tuesday, London to be precise. Which is 50/50 for me. I mean it's amazing that she's coming to England, but it's shite it had to be London, but her brother lives there so not much I can do really. I'm considering going down there for the day to visit her next Tuesday, but i'm really unsure yet as to whether it will be feasible or not. So, i'm sat on the bus today, next to a fucking student who was chatting with two of his student mates. Fortunately for me, I had my mix of Mr. Bungle / Faith No More on my cd player and was giving 'Be Aggressive' a fucking good listen to. Next thing I know, this curly haired bastard next to me taps me on the arm, so I take off my headphone.
Me: Yeah?
Him: Are you listening to Faith No More?
Me (Kinda surprised): Yeah I am, you know them?
Him: Yeah, it was 'Be Aggressive' with the kids singing wasn't it?
Me: Yeah! Shit, I didn't realise I had it on that loud.
Him: Oh, don't worry about it, it's great for me sitting here to be able to hear good music on a bus ride (smiles).
By this time I was pleasantly surprised, and appreciative of this chap's fellow liking for Faith No More. Next thing he said blew me away.
Him: You ever heard any of Patton's other group 'Mr. Bungle'?
By this time, I had a cheesy grin on my face.
Me: Are you kidding? I've got them and Faith No More on this cd as a compilation of songs.
Him: I LOVE the album with the clown on the front.
Me: That's their self-titled one.
Him: That's it, and their other album, what's it called?
Me: Disco Volante. But they have a 3rd album too called California.
Him: Really? Wow, never heard about that one.
It was his stop now, so he was off on his travels again.
Him: Nice to meet ya, and great to find a fellow fan of Patton!
Me: Same here.
As he got off the bus, he even let on when he started walking away. And this was a student! All I can say is watch yaself curly top, because you're giving those fuckers a good name with your sexual taste in the arts. I also told him about seeing Mike Patton at Leeds this year, but when I mentioned Rahzel, he looked at me blankly. For once. Ouch. Still, what a lovely bus-ride, tho it's not the first time that my music in my ears has been reacted to... gotta love some of our bus folk.
Back to the ol' conventional blog, and boy do I feel lonely. Wait a sec... didn't I just mention this in a previous blog? Oh fuck it then. I blame watching 'American Splendour' on my own last night. God is that film depressing, but oh so very true. Harvey Pekar is a class-act chap, even if only for his genuine feeling self.

How do you begin to pick a worst song from your favourite album's catalogue? Sure, if you're into the likes of Brittany Spears, McFly, 50 Cent, easy peasy Japanesey. But when I was asked today, what my worst Rush song ever was, I was stuck.
From 149 songs, that's not an easy thing to do. But I decided i'd go with the flow, and after a VERY long time thinking, came up with a nice little ditty known as 'Time Stand Still'. To be honest, I did have a point to this little anecdote... and now it seems to have vanished into the annals of time, with a lot of other things that slip from my grasp.
It's a time for losing it feels. And I don't mean that in the sad, "I've lost the battle" kinda way, but in a more mental way. No, not insanity, something else. Maybe a loss of comfort, security, dependence, gah, I don't know. It just seems there's a time of change ahead, where loss will overcome gain, but maybe not necessarily for the wrong reasons. This is my life of course, I'm not speaking generally. :D But then since when did I ever profess to speak for the people?

She ranked among the Atlantic 10 leaders in shots, goals, points, and was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week once during the 2004 season.
For her career, she ranks in Fordham's top five in games played with 72 (T-5th), games started with 66 (5th), goals with 17 (4th), assists with 12 (3rd) and points with 46 (4th).

Purcell, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last season, helped Fordham to two conference wins this weekend, as the Rams pushed their conference record to 2-2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Purcell had three goals and an assist this weekend, as she had a goal and an assist in the Rams' 3-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday, while having a two goals in Sunday's 3-1 win over Duquesne. Talk about starting off on a sombre note, but I couldn't help read this strip and think, "Calvin, you can be such a bastard at times." This follows a spout of Calvin skitting Susie, and the reason I loved this strip, is because there's so many people out there who can identify with that bullshit saying, and feel that lost hope that Susie does.

Bill Watterson was and is a genius. And his humour is top of the comic world. The last window on this strip had me literally LOL'ing, and that's not something I do as a hobby.

To see a tiger, in mid-air after being flung by a way-ward push-kart, to quietly state that his heart has stopped in the way Hobbes does in this strip... it made me nearly piss myself. There's something about that window that is funny beyond words, I can't pinpoint it.

It's amazing how Hobbes can still seem such a life-like character, even when presented in his 'stuffed tiger' form. Calvin's final response borders on slightly chilling. Knowing what he knows and what Susie doesn't know about him and Hobbes is one of life's never-ending mysteries...

It's not often we see Hobbes end a strip more pissed off than even Calvin, but when we do it usualyl guarantees a gold finisher by the tiger, and he doesn't fail to deliver on this occasion.

It's not so much the fact Hobbes ends up in the dryer (what with us having grown to him as a 'real' person), but the fact he, and Calvin for that matter, take the event as a given, and have a nice little bitch at the end about how he could have looked better.

I was fooled by this strip. The fact Calvin sees through his mother's ploy, after what was initially a very heart-warming opener, just paints that kid as he is.

I absolutely FUCKING love this strip. The gap between parent and child is presented in such a beautiful way, you can't help but find Calvin's happiness so fucking cute, and his dad's dis-interest in the photo's bordering on saddening. i think we all remember this innocence.

What a bizarre night... but then I always think they're bizarre when realistically they're anything but. Anywho, was nice to see Skippy, Lady H, Snarlie, Big Dan, Laura & Claire (And their friends who seem to love my suit), young Kev from last week again, Smithy, Sam... I could go on. A bit of a shame I didn't get annihilated, but there's always next time. :)
Was able to bump into Leann again, which was a great end to an otherwise tiring night. I was already sitting off outside, waiting for my bro to get his fat arse out of the cess-pool, and the next thing I know, she's standing outside by the entrance with her Austrian friend Elle (I hope that's how she spells it). So I trundled on over to greet her with open arms and a happy 18th birthday. The all important one. Legal. :D I was so close to getting a taxi home with her and the ever exquisite Charlotte, only my drunk brother and the Blakely stumbled on out, shouting and screaming about nothing, before Lee decided to try and pull a windscreen wiper off some KH bouncer's car. Not the best idea. But again, Leann, always a pleasure. :) We really shouldn't keep meeting like this. :P
My blog's are distancing themselves from one another. I have no excuse. I simply am tired lately, and trying to find shit to write about is becoming a strange chore. What happened to the days where i'd pull a subject out of mid-air and launch into a petty tirade upon anything from students, bus-drivers, the price of fish, etc? Maybe i'm losing my touch. Maybe. But still, there's enough people seemingly reading this hunk of shit for me to carry on for now I suppose. Even the bombs and the scarecrows will sing... though that hasn't been scientifically proven as of yet. Watch this space. As always. Salut.
