People who take shit you need without asking = ARGH!!!
The big news this week has been the inclusion of Theo Walcott into England's 2006 World Cup Squad. Personally? I hope to god he sinks and burns. Sven has fucked himself up BIG time with this. He's took someone to the world Cup who is 17. Now, the age itself isn't usually a factor, but when you couple this with the fact the guy has never even played a Premier League game, you've got to start scratching your head. I see two vastly different outcomes to this, both ending with misery for Eriksson:
1. Walcott goes to the World Cup and sees some action, but fails miserably. He has a SHITLOAD to live up to, and nevermind trying to make his name in the Premiership, but he simply won't do it in the World Cup. This kid is being thrown head first into the biggest tournament in the world with no top-flight experience.
2. He doesn't even see any play-time because Sven opts to go with more experienced strikers (PRAY for this), but then this leaves the public AND Sven with a bit of a dilemma; Walcott has immediately become the next big thing, and sadly for us British, HE WILL become the next Posh & Becks / Wayne & Colleen (is there ANYONE out there who doesn't find this thing repugnant?). As if we don't have enough celebrity exposure across the news, the papers, and the internet, we're gonna be having yet another football couple thrown at us. But if he doesn't play the games he's suddenly being hailed our saviour for, what then? Will the papers continue to glorify this guy and the schoolgirl (the next Colleen) he's dating, or will they just act as if it never happened and continue to go on about Shrek & Tango Girl / Posh & Becks?
Some of you may wonder where the option of Walcott playing his boots off is. I simply can't see this happening. I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, but Walcott is not going to surprise us. Even if he does play at all, expect only sub-standard performances. The other teams in our groups must be pissing themselves at the fact our nation has suddenly branded a Championship League player as our hero for the World Cup... let's get behind Peter Crouch instead, he's the guy who WILL be having to play most of the attacker's role for England.
If Walcott DOES become a staple for this tournament... we're gonna have no chance of winning it. Though I never did think we would anyway.
I was looking forward to this World Cup, and now i'm feeling angry about it cos' it's suddenly turned into the Wal Cott. Wayne Rooney must be devastated. His big news break has now become tiny paragraphs cos' of a kid who is in a position he once was.
